The Big Dancer

Richard Edelman (www.edelmansculpture.com) and I have been working together for a while now, in our contract we had agreed to 2 videos. This was to be the second video shoot. My plan was to create a teaser video of his premiere piece, the Big Dancer. This sculpture was quite awkward to move being 15 ft tall and around 600 lbs.

At 3 am, the alarm clock buzzed. I grabbed my photo equipment and got into my truck. I picked up Huck, my assistant and friend and headed to Richard's house. We arrived at 3:45, loaded up the trailer and headed out to the frozen beaches of Sheboygan WI. After the arrival, it took 4 guys to lift this piece over a steep 30ft ice encrusted hill down a valley and onto chunks of ice just above the freezing water of lake michigan. All of this done in darkness. all of us were exhausted but as soon as we erected the Big Dancer, all of us dashed for our cameras. Each shot was setup just in the nick of time before the sun came out. From that point on we shot the sculpture until darkness that evening.

Dragon's Breath - 12/7/08

I remember being in college and driving past the lake front during some of the coldest days and seeing lake michigan ablaze. Steam rising off the water and meshing with the clouds. And each

day I wish I could stop to photograph it. I finally had that chance.

The top image reminds me of the song, "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden.

In my eyes, indisposed
In disguise as no one knows
Hides the face, lies the snake
The sun in my disgrace
Boiling heat, summer stench
'Neath the black the sky looks dead
Call my name through the cream

I Just found out about these guys last night. I'm going to pick up some of their dvd's soon.

Jan Svankmajer - Dimensions of Dialouge pt 2

This video has forever changed my outlook on clay forever. Never have I seen something so erotic in such a beautiful manner that isn't explicit or graphic in showing body parts but rather the actions.

Jiri Barta - Golem

Very dark yet beautifully poetic on how an old man remembers the environment he's currently walking around. Great visual fx going between the surreal and real.

Doll Face - Simply Amazing CGI video of what's depicted in american society every day. It's saddening but very real & interesting. Great job Andrew!

Wisdom is an amazing project done by Andrew Zuckerman. He interviews, films & photographs 50 successful individuals whom all are over the age of 65. His subjects share their experiences, beliefs and straight up wisdom for future generations. A must see project that is nothing less than inspiring! Inside my Disjointed Complex, after facing the basement, I arrived to a stairway which lead me to this image. At that time I was awe struck. As I look back on this image I see it as the choices we make in life. The blue door on the far left, shut. A plateau where we no longer can progress. The middle door collapsed from overhead as a result of taking on the weight of the world. The Right, white light illuminates, unsure of what's beyond that point it feels somewhat right as a movement from the darkness to the light.

The Shadow Aspect of Self

Buried underground, the basement is a symbol of darkness, housing the beasts and skeletons the builder attempted to hide. The photograph of the cellar is an exploration of that aspect of self. Darkness Prevails during both day and night, even with light. Only shadows can be seen dancing on the dark walls.

"Welcome" - Disjointed Complex

Every part of a structure is relative to a particular aspect of one's being. For example, the sense of irony found in the door with the sign, enticing them to enter. However, a barrier keeps the viewer from actually entering. The door and sign are much like passing a stranger on the street, acknowledging their presence, perhaps engaging in a shallow conversation - then continuing on. Basically they are our "single serving friend," exposed only to our facade and unable to know much more than that.
